In the second round of the MLS SuperDraft, the Colorado Rapids once again used a draft pick they had previously traded for to acquire a player. This time, they used their 37th pick, which had come from Dallas, to select Dennis Castillo. Castillo is a defenseman from VCU.

Castillo was a team captain all four years at VCU, and his leadership on the field was unparalleled, as he led VCU’s defense to six shutouts his freshman year. Castillo played in 80 games throughout his four years and started in every single one of them. He had 36 career points, 17 goals and 2 assists. As a senior, Castillo was awarded the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year award.

His VCU family was pretty pumped for him as well…

Castillo and Emmanuel Appiah were the only players acquired by the Rapids on Day 1 of the SuperDraft, but the craziness (more trades and players) is sure to resume on Tuesday for the second day the MLS SuperDraft.
