The Denver Broncos are gearing up for the NFL Draft at the end of April, which will then set the table for their offseason program and organized team activities. When will the Broncos report for their offseason program?
Denver Broncos offseason program dates announced
The NFL recently announced the dates for teams to conduct their offseason program. Teams will begin their programs ahead of the start of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Denver Broncos offseason program dates:
First day: April 15th.
OTA Offseason Workouts: May 21-23, May 29-31.
Mandatory Minicamp: June 11-13.
Per the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, each club’s official, voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases.
Phase One: The first two weeks of the program are limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation.
Phase Two: The next three weeks of the program can feature on-field workouts that may only include individual or group instruction, as well as drills. Offensive players can line up in front of defensive players in these drills, but no live contact or team offense vs team defense can occur. Everything in this phase is conducted at a walk-through pace.
Phase Three: The final four weeks of the voluntary off-season program. Teams can conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.
Also included in the NFL CBA, team clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players, which must occur during Phase Three of the team’s offseason program.
Each NFL team may also hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which can begin on May 13 of 2024. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft.
For Sean Payton, these dates will be important as he prepares for his second season as the team’s head coach following a disappointing 8-9 debut. With all of the offseason changes, this team and roster are currently assembled with the idea that they can carry out his vision.
This offseason, Payton decided to part ways with veteran free safety Justin Simmons, who was the team’s most-tenured player on the roster and one of the team’s most respected voices in the locker room. How the team responds will be interesting to watch as the Broncos will look for a variety of new young voices to step up to the plate this season.
