Denver Broncos new addition Josh Reynolds could thrive inside of offense
The arrival of Josh Reynolds during NFL free agency could be one of the most underrated moves of the offseason as the team looks to make some noise in Sean Payton’s second season.
He wasn’t the top receiving option last year as a member of the Detroit Lions, but he was an impact producer inside of one of the league’s best offenses in 2023.
Reynolds was the fourth-leading targeted receiver for the Lions, hauling in 40 catches on 64 targets. 32 of his 40 catches last season were good enough to move the chains for a first down, according to Pro Football Reference.
On top of that, Jared Goff had a passer rating of 113.3 when looking his way. As a matter of fact, in four of his six seasons in the NFL, QBs have had a passer rating of 80 or higher when targeting him.
This consistent record of production could translate well into Payton’s offense this upcoming season despite Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Marvin Mims being expected to be the team’s top three receiving options this year.
If Reynolds is the fourth option, his ability to be a big-play receiver and drive sustainer can help Denver’s offense take a step forward this season regardless of who the quarterback is.
“They’re balling right now,” Reynolds said of the QB competition during OTAs. “I know they’re still learning; it’s only been two-three weeks. They’re young right now, but they’re showing real good stuff.”
If things pan out how we anticipate on paper, the Broncos offense should be significantly better this upcoming season if the top four receivers stay healthy.
