It wasn’t the prettiest effort, but the Denver Nuggets are 2-0.

In the latest Pickaxe and Roll Podcast, Ryan Blackburn recaps the Denver Nuggets 108-104 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray found ways to with clutch shotmaking even if they weren’t perfect throughout. Jokić had 22 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists but also racked up a ghastly nine turnovers trying to execute the Nuggets offense.

Ryan discusses the starters, why Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman give Jokic so much trouble, and gives credit to Reggie Jackson and the Nuggets bench. Peyton Watson and Zeke Nnaji each deserve a shoutout for their defensive performances as well.

Finally, Ryan discusses the Nuggets defense and their capabilities this year behind efforts from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Aaron Gordon. Could the Nuggets become a top ten defense this season? Will they try to reach that threshold? Or will they hold some energy in reserve ahead of the 2024 NBA playoffs?
