“I first started drumming for youth lacrosse games back in the ’90s. I noticed that when I was beating the drum, the level of play and enthusi-asm on the field picked up. At first I thought it was just a coincidence. But I started noticing that when I was drumming, those kids were really playing. When I’d stop, the intensity would come down. It wasn’t a coinci-dence. So when the Outlaws started, I took my drum to Mile High Stadium, just a fan. I noticed the same thing and so did the team. They encouraged me to bring my drum, and they set me up in a special area each game. One day, they came to me and said, ‘JoJo, you can’t beat your drum in the stands anymore.’ I was crushed until they told me, ‘Actually, we want you to do it on the field from now on.’”
