Former University of Denver star goaltender Sam Brittain is about to get his first taste of the big leagues.

On Tuesday, the Florida Panthers announced that they had recalled Brittain from the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL.

Brittain is expected to be in uniform for the Panthers when they take on the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. Scheduled starter James Reimer will miss the contest to be with his wife, as she prepares to give birth to the couple’s first child. Brittain will serve as backup to Roberto Luongo, who will start in Reimer’s place.

In 26 games for the Monarchs this season, Brittain has posted a 2.98 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. The 24-year-old has also played in one contest for the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, posting a goals-against average of 0.98 and a save percentage of .960.
