The Avalanche have two of the NHL’s most elite players leading the team in superstar center Nathan MacKinnon and dominant defenseman Cale Makar. But perhaps the most intriguing piece of their core is team captain Gabriel Landeskog.
Landeskog, 31, has not played in nearly two years — not since the night of June 26, 2022, when he helped Colorado defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 to win its third Stanley Cup. Now hoping to reach the end of his recovery from a knee cartilage replacement, Landeskog is among the 10 NHL stars to be featured in an Amazon Prime docu-series.
The yet-to-be-named series producers are the same group that produced “Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing.” They began production earlier this year, following each of the NHL stars, which includes Edmonton’s Connor McDavid and Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk — the duo that will meet in the Stanley Cup Final starting on Saturday. Also featured are Boston’s David Pastrnak and Jeremy Swayman, New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba, Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes, Nashville’s Filip Forsberg, Golden Knights center Jack Eichel, Toronto’s star forward William Nylander, and Landeskog.
Amazon’s production team was seen following Landeskog’s every step at Family Sports Center and Ball Arena during the captains’ on-ice rehab in the playoffs. Landeskog is unclear when he’ll play again but remains confident that he’ll return. He didn’t want to put a specific timeline on his return, instead stating that it’ll be “between mid-September and start of April.”
This would mean the team’s longest-tenured member expects to play some point during the 2024-25 regular season.
The series, which will stretch for six episodes, is set to debut in October.
