The offseason is underway for the Colorado Avalanche as the team shipped Alex Newhook to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for the No. 31 and No. 37 picks in the 2023 NHL Draft along with Gianni Fairbrother.

With Joe Sakic and company looking towards the 2023-2024 season, it was only a matter of time before the Avs made some moves to bolster the the roster for next season and beyond. Aarif Deen and J.J. Jerez of Mile High Sports break down the details of the trade to Montreal, and look at why Colorado ultimately decided to part ways with Newhook, who was a member of the 2022 Stanley Cup Champion squad.

They discuss what it could mean for the Avs moving forward both in terms of re-shaping their bottom six and finding someone to fill out the remaining spot in the top six. The guys also look at some of the other deals around the NHL that broke on Tuesday, specifically the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade, which was somewhat connected to the Newhook deal.
