While one Nuggets point guard has been in the news with trade rumors, one will now leave on his own accord. Per Real GM Jameer Nelson will not be back with Denver next season.

“Denver Nuggets guard Jameer Nelson is planning to opt out of his $2.85 million player option for the 2015-16 season to enter free agency.”

Nelson signed with the Dallas Mavericks via free agency last season and quickly won the starting job. With Dallas, Nelson logged 23 games, starting in every one.

Dallas then made the decision to trade Nelson to the Boston Celtics for Rajon Rondo. The Celtics then quickly moved Nelson to Denver on Jan. 13 for Nate Robinson after only six games.

Nelson put up similar numbers with Denver as he did with Dallas, scoring 9.6 points and 3.7 assists per-game. However, in 34 games played, he only started five of them.

The Nuggets and Nelson have until June 29 to make the opt out official with the league. With trade rumors surrounding Ty Lawson and now Nelson leaving, the Nuggets might have some added pressure to find their point guard of the future with the No. 7 pick in the upcoming draft.
