As the Denver Broncos face their final game of the season — and an uncertain future — head coach Vance Joseph set the scene prior to Sunday’s finale against the Chiefs.
Paxton Lynch will start at quarterback for the Broncos, while Patrick Mahomes II will take the snaps for the Chiefs, and Lynch will be without receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer, both of whom will miss the game with injuries.
“I was very impressed with Cody from midseason on,” Joseph said. “Cody was one guy who made big plays down the field for us — contested plays — and that’s huge when you’re playing receiver in this league. Most of the time, the balls are going to be contested, but he came down with them. From the Philly game to the Indy game two weeks ago, I’ve been impressed with him.”
“As a gunner, and while playing for Brock, he’s been special for us. He’s had a good year, in my opinion,” Joseph said of Latimer, who is a restricted free agent in the offseason. “Obviously, he’s missed the last couple games, which is sad for him, but he had a good year for us.”
Joseph discussed who might be able to step up and contribute Latimer and Sanders’ absence. “I would first point out Jordan Taylor; he’s played at a high level for Brock [Osweiler] and for the offense,” Joseph said. “He’s a guy you can count on, and that’s half the battle for a backup player. You have to be able to go into the game and do it right for us… [Taylor’s] done that for us.”
