The timing of David Bruton‘s retirement probably wasn’t intended to precede by one day the release of a medical study that found symptoms of CTE in the brains of 99 percent of former NFL players involved in the study, but the two stories did share important parallels.

A special teams captain and safety for the Denver Broncos from 2009 until 2015, Bruton had his his 2016 season cut short in Washington as the result of concussions and other injuries. Bruton now is turning his attention to helping others heal and recover as he pursues a second career in physical therapy.

The Super Bowl 50 champion joined Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 the day after his retirement to share his reasons for retiring and reflect on his career.

Despite the controversy that has surrounded the NFL’s handling of concussions over the years, Bruton said he felt that the Broncos were always quite serious with his medical care. Now, he’ll shift his focus to caring for others.

Listen to the full interview with Bruton, including how he plans to continue his charitable work in Denver upon retirement, in the podcast below…
