Congratulations to Heidi Hammond, a senior basketball player at Valor Christian High School, for receiving 1,886 votes out of a total 4,232 and being named the ASPIRE Athlete of the Week for Week 20!
Heidi is captain of a team that has started their season 21-1. As a guard for the Eagles, she’s putting up strong numbers that include averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Heidi’s presence on the basketball court has been felt throughout her high school career; last year, she was named the “Subway Player of the Game” in the 2015 state championship game.
“Heidi is one of those student-athletes that is a coach’s dream,” stated Valor Christian’s basketball coach, Jessika Caldwell. “She delicately balances an extreme dedication to her athletics, academics and community service, all the while integrating her faith in all she does.”
In academics, Heidi shines, as well, currently holding a 4.1 GPA at Valor Christian, where she was recognized as the “Science Student of the Year” as a junior and “History Student of the Semester” as a sophomore. Her community outreach includes volunteering for the Special Olympics, coaching with the Fall Skills Session youth basketball program and completing a mission trip to Uganda with Valor Discovery in 2015.
“Heidi brings out the best in people,” Coach Caldwell continued. “Her ability to bring joy, encouragement and drive to her endeavors truly propels others around her to be their best. She is a loyal friend, a fantastic teammate and constantly serves those around her.”
