Players get a lot of work in during their team’s offseason program, but that is limited. In the Mile High City, the Denver Broncos usually go the extra mile to make sure that they are prepared.

Former quarterback Peyton Manning was infamous for his offseason workouts, gathering teammates to prepare for the season together (even jokingly asking them to pay for it all). Mark Sanchez followed suit last season. Now, that responsibility looks to be falling on wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

“Paxton [Lynch] actually texted me, and we’re going to try to get it done,” Sanders said on Monday. “Actually, we are going to get it done; it’s just about location.”

Sanders’ offseason base is in Houston. That will be the likely location. Now, it just comes down to figuring out the logistics.

“Obviously, I want to host all of the guys at my house in Houston,” Sanders said. “I know Demaryius [Thomas] is on board, everybody’s on board. It’s just about booking the flights and getting it done.”

The camp will include both quarterbacks competing for the starting job: Lynch and incumbent Trevor Siemian. Sanders did not say who he would prefer.

“Obviously, we want a guy that can take us all the way to the Super Bowl, get us into the playoffs, since we missed that last year. We’re going to see who that guy is,” Sanders said, adding at another point. “We’re sitting here right now in a good position, with two guys [that are] hungry, that want to be starters, that want to be franchise quarterbacks, that believe in themselves. So, with that said, all I can do is go out and handle my business.”

Sanders isn’t only trying to get better with his teammates though. He is also trying to improve when he is at home.

“I remember two years ago, I bought a JUGS machine. In doing that, it helped me; because last year, obviously, I didn’t have too many drops,” he said. “This year, I invested in myself, and I went and put a nice weight room in my house.”

Sanders did not like the ‘weird’ feeling of being on the outside of the playoffs, of watching at home. It is not something he is looking to do again this season.

“Last year, we fell short. This year, we’ve got to change that. We’ve got to do something different. We’ve got to get in the playoffs.”
