After beating Arkansas of the SEC last week, the Colorado State Rams were worked by Florida, losing 48-10 this Saturday.
The first half was full of mistakes for the Rams; they allowed pressure and fumbled one punt, allowed another punt to be blocked for a touchdown and K.J. Carta-Samuels fumbled a snap, too. Oh, and Wyatt Bryan also missed two field goals which could’ve kept CSU in the game.
At the break, the Rams trailed 27-3 and all looked lost.
Finally, Colorado State came alive.
Carta-Samuels found Trey McBride in the middle of the field on a seam route, he bounced off one defender and stiff-armed through another for the team’s only touchdown of the day. It was also McBride’s first touchdown of his career, pulling the Rams closer at 27-10.
Then, the defense came up with a big stop to force a punt, but they had to punt it back. And after the rest of the third quarter ended quietly, the Gators took a punt 85 yards to the house to push their lead to 34-10.
In the ensuing drive, Carta-Samuels was sacked by a free-rushing defender and fumbled, leading to yet another touchdown by Florida on an explosive play. Feliepe Franks connected with Van Jefferson down the sideline for a 38-yard touchdown as he burned Anthony Hawkins to extend the Gators’ lead to 41-10.
Dameon Pierce piled on with a 68-yard touchdown late in the game, bringing it to 48-10.
Without a doubt, there were many takeaways from the loss. The offensive line couldn’t block well in either the run or pass game, the offense was completely one-dimensional and the special teams were an utter disaster for the Rams.
At 1-3 on the season, it’s time to go back to the drawing board for Colorado State as they gear up to host Illinois State next Saturday in Fort Collins.
