The Colorado Rockies had their four-game winning streak snapped against the Miami Marlins Saturday afternoon, losing 6-2.
Saturday’s game had an unusual matinee start time of 1:10 due to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise.
Colorado was unable to win in front of some franchise legends in attendance; however were within striking distance until the seventh inning.
There was only one hit in the game through the first four innings with Miami taking an early lead on the second knock of the afternoon, a solo home run hit by Dereck Dietrich.
The Rockies answered with a pair of hits in the bottom half of the fourth, the first being a single by Carlos Gonzalez which was followed by a double to left field from Trevor Story. From there, Gerardo Parra hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring a run to even the game at one apiece.
The game remained at a deadlock for some time until the Marlins were able to break through in the seventh inning, starting with hitting three consecutive singles off of Anderson, one of which resulted in the go-ahead run. Anderson was then pulled in favor of Bryan Shaw who was able to induce a ground ball which DJ LeMahieu threw home to nullify the lead runner. With one out, Shaw proceeded to throw six consecutive cutters, the ladder resulting in a Grand Slam hit by J.T. Realmuto which pushed Miami ahead 6-1.
Despite his struggles in the seventh inning, Anderson was solid for a majority of his start, finishing with a line of six innings pitched, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two batters and striking out eight.
Parra blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning; however, that was all the offense Colorado had in the tank. The Rockies went down quietly in the eighth and ninth innings en route to the defeat.
The Rockies and Marlins will conclude their series Sunday afternoon at Coors Field with first pitch set for 1:10 MST.
