The Broncos need to add more honey. That’s what Von Miller‘s camp said Friday about the contract offer Denver gave the Super Bowl MVP Thursday, which included a reported $61 million in guarantees. Apparently they have done just that.

NFL.com’s Mike Garofolo said Friday evening Miller wants more guarantees from Denver and that talks should continue over the weekend. Mike Klis of 9News reported late Friday that the Broncos have sent another contract Miller’s way and the two sides will talk again Saturday.

The Broncos and Miller made significant progress over the past several days. After weeks of not talking, they are at least close enough on terms to sit down at the same table. Elway and Miller’s agent have been trading calls and hammering out the details.

Denver upped the ante on Thursday from two years of fully guaranteed dollars to three. It appears that Miller still wants more than $63.3 million in guarantees, which the Eagles gave Fletcher Cox. NFL Media’s Rand Getlin says it’s the Cox contract and the $44 million upfront and $87 million in guarantees that Indy gave Andrew Luck that’s holding up a deal for Miller.

According to Klis, the latest proposal upped the ante on the guaranteed portion of the contract.

The Broncos and Miller know they are close. A source within the organization told Mile High Sports Radio’s Benjamin Allbright they’re optimistic a deal is near.

Neither side apparently wants this to drag out to the July 15 deadline. This week’s progress is promising, even without a deal done. The basic framework of the $114.5 million deal has been in place since June 7. Will the details of this new deal be sweet enough? We might know as early as Saturday morning.

While all the negotiations were taking place, Miller was in Texas. First, he made a donation to the DeSoto first responders. He wrote a $25,000 check to DeSoto Fire Rescue and gave a vehicle to DeSoto Police. Miller attended DeSoto High School.

After that he threw out the first pitch at Friday’s Rangers game.
