With the Denver Broncos set to start training camp this week, several previously injured players won’t be available to participate in Friday’s camp kickoff.

Denver Broncos make several roster moves on Sunday

The Denver Broncos announced several roster moves on Sunday that will factor into how the team approaches the start of training camp.

Denver placed outside linebacker Baron Browning (knee) and wide receiver Kendall Hinton (knee) on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list ahead of Tuesday’s reporting date for veterans.

Browning had surgery to repair a torn meniscus during the offseason and will not be ready for the official start of training camp. His offseason surgery went well, and he’s been attacking rehab in hopes of being able to go sometime after the regular season begins.

Hinton also had a minor procedure done on his knee at some point during the offseason. Both players on the PUP list still count toward the team’s 90-man roster but can be taken off the list at any time.

Other roster moves by the Broncos included them adding wide receiver KJ Hamler (pectoral muscle) and Mike Purcell to the NFI (Non-Football Injury) list. Hamler suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle while training during the offseason and had it surgically repaired. He’s made tremendous progress in his recovery and is expected to participate at some point during camp.

Purcell also had a procedure done during the offseason, which landed him on the list. During Broncos minicamp and OTAs, Hamler was a limited participant during practices that were open to the media. Purcell wasn’t able to participate but was in attendance and observed during practices.

Both players can be taken off the NFI list at any point as well during training camp.

Considering the uncertain timelines of return, whether or not each of these players returns during camp will have an impact on the roster evaluation process during training camp and throughout the preseason.

The Broncos have plenty of players on their training camp roster at receiver, edge rusher, and defensive line. Still, Browning, Purcell, Hamler, and Hinton are all considered impact names at those positions respectively.

The Denver Broncos officially kick off training camp this Friday at 10:00 a.m. MT at the Centura Health Training Center.
