The Colorado Rapids announced Thursday that team president Tim Hinchey has accepted the position of president & CEO at USA Swimming in Colorado Springs. Hinchey, who spent the last seven years with the Colorado Rapids, will leave the club on July 1.

“We were extremely fortunate to have Tim spearhead the Colorado Rapids since his arrival in 2010. Through his passion and commitment to the club, the State of Colorado and the sport of soccer, Tim was an instrumental figure in helping make the Colorado Rapids the organization that it is today,” said President and CEO of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment Jim Martin. “Although we are sad to see him leave the Colorado Rapids and KSE family, we want to congratulate and wish Tim the very best as he begins a new and exciting chapter in his professional career with USA Swimming.”

The 2016 MLS Executive of the Year and Mile High Sports Executive of the Year arrived in Commerce City as the club’s Chief Marketing Officer in November 2010, before being named Rapids President on December 12, 2011.

With over 20 years of experience in professional sports in the United States and England, Hinchey oversaw exponential growth and development of the franchise, including increased attendance and sponsorship revenue, more than 300% increase in Season Ticket Member accounts, the first-ever jersey deal, as well as the arrival of all Rapids’ Designated Players.

Under Hinchey’s leadership, the Rapids had the most successful year in club history in 2016, setting record marks in sponsorship revenue, earned media, and attendance, including a record 10 capacity crowds. Dick’s Sporting Goods Park enjoyed its highest average attendance in stadium history, and the second-highest total attendance in franchise history.

With Hinchey’s direction, the club also opened the Audi Chairman’s Club, modeled on the European-style directors’ box/boardroom, and the Summit Club, the Rapids’ first true VIP hospitality club for premium customers. Additionally, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park hosted the 2015 MLS All-Star Game, as well as a number of international matches – including the U.S. Men’s and Women’s national teams.
