After suffering a 19-15 loss at the beginning of the season to the New York Lizards (1-1), the Denver Outlaws (0-2) will look to avenge that defeat in their home opener against the Lizards Friday.

Last weekend, the Outlaws were close to claiming their first win of the regular season until the Dallas Rattlers (2-1) snatched it away with a 15-14 overtime victory to hand the Outlaws their second straight loss to begin the season.

Let’s look at the key to winning for Denver:

Keeping the Lizards offense in check

For the Outlaws, the most important key to victory is keeping the Lizards’ offense in check.

Doing this will be easier said than done as New York attackers Will Manny, Rob Pannell and Mike Bocklet are among the top scoring leaders in the league. They will certainly provide a tough test. Another player who the Outlaws will look to keep in check will be Lizards midfielder Paul Rabil, who is always a weapon, no matter his point total on the season.

In order to keep pace with New York’s talented roster, Denver will need to depend on attackman Matt Kavanagh, who currently leads the team with 13 points in the past two games played. The Outlaws will also need to look to veteran attackman Eric Law (7 points) and midfielder Jeremy Sieverts (5 points) to put some points on the board.

In terms of coming away with the victory, keeping the Lizards top scorers in check will be vital for the Outlaws to try to avoid beginning the season with three straight losses.
